Bicentenary of Abolition of the Slave Trade

On the 10th of February, 1807 the 'Bill for the Abolition of the Slave Trade' was passed in the House of Commons which in the following month on the 25th March received Royal Assent. This significant step towards the ending of the Transatlantic Slave Trade was the result of vigorous campaigning on the part of a number of resolute abolitionists including William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson, both members of St John's College.

The College will be marking the bicentenary with a weekend of events on the 17 and 18 February.
